Take It Outside!
|
In 2000, a group of outdoor enthusiasts conceived the idea to create an artificial whitewater course in the Charlotte area. Six years, 35 million dollars and 12 million gallons of water later, their dream has become a reality. The US National Whitewater Center held its grand opening in November 2006, showcasing 307 acres that include the largest artificial whitewater course in the world, 2 climbing walls, 11 miles of mountain biking and hiking trails and flat water paddling on the Catawba River. It is a regional magnet for everyone from Olympic hopefuls to novice paddlers to casual observers. From the building process through completion, take it outside! covers the remarkable story of the US National Whitewater Center.
